((OOC note: Please make sure you read the membership guide and all the information concerning new students. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact any student here at Hogwarts.
If you have any preference on housing, please contact the sorting house. However, keep in mind you may not always get the house you want.))
The Sorting Hat was brought out in front of the students and placed on a stool on the stage before the teachers table. When all of the students were quiet it opened its mouth and began to sing:
"From the moment Godric Gryffindor,
Did place me on his shelf,
And gave me capability,
For thinking for myself,
I've done my best to serve the school,
Though they are dead and gone,
And tell you what they told me so,
The legends will live on,
Each house though they are different,
Are equal in their might,
And you shall all be part of one,
By eight o'clock tonight,
Hufflepuff's serenity,
And cheerfulness at heart,
Tis their pleasant warm demeanour,
That set Hufflepuffs apart,
Ravenclaw’s intelligence,
And those with sharpened wit,
Commanding intellectuals,
In Ravenclaw will fit,
Slytherin’s ambitiousness,
And mindful strong desire,
It’s those with stealth and cunning,
That Slytherins admire,
Gryffindor’s audacity,
And courage to the end,
Those with faultless loyalty,
Will Gryffindors befriend,
Mull it over in your minds,
For you what would be best?
Which of the favoured qualities,
Do you count above the rest?
In all the time I've had this task,
I've never once been wrong,
So come and place me on your head,
I'll know where you belong,"

Kel sat waiting for his turn to be called to have the hat placed on him to be sorted into which house he would call home for the remainder of his time at Hogwars.

Though you are nervous around new people and quite meek and mild most of the time, you hate bullies and will go against your own demeanor to stand against them. Because of this clear cut view of what is right and wrong, you would do very well in Ravenclaw. However, a Ravenclaw would not jeopardize their physical well being for their beliefs. You would and because of this sheer fact, I shall put you in

Ah. Another student who would do well in Ravenclaw. You are exceedingly smart and studious. However, though Ravenclaws are smart, they wouldn't go out of their way to transfer to a much more knowledgeable school to challenge themselves. This ambition is a trait of another house I think would suit you better than Ravenclaw. That house is

The hat cried when it was placed on the the head of Ming, Ling. Armeina could only imagine what it would say once it reached her brow.
Caladwen, Armeina!
Her stomach plunged as she was called forward and she nervously took her seat on the spindly stool.

Franz watched as the sorting hat sorted Armeina. He found it pretty enchanting that an old and somewhat dirty hat held so much knowledge and responsibility.
When his name was called after Armeina left the seat, Franz walked up to the stool and sat down. He felt really tall, since Armeina was just at the same seat and she was a first year and 11, and he... well, was a 6 foot tall 17 year old.
He waited for the sorting hat to be placed on his head and make a decision.

Franz Kaiser...what a peculiar case you are! You are coming into the school as a transfer student with many characteristics and talents already embedded in you. What house would further enhance your skills? Oh yes... I see you are very smart and Ravenclaw would cater to your needs, but Slytherin can capture your ambitions and be a made man! However, neither of these houses can hope to help you as much as the house of...

Franz really didn't care which house he was placed in. He didn't think that it would determine anything about himself that he didn't already know. He go off the stool and headed toward the Gryffindor table.
Looking up at the Gryffindor Lion, he felt a little pride being in the house the Sorting hate placed him in.
Dante Starr

Heading to the stool Dante couldn't help having an amused smile on his face. He really wondered who would win the bet over what house he'd be in. He also hoped after this bet thing was over they'd still be interested in him and want to be his friend.
Sitting down, he placed the sorting hat on his head and waited.

Well well well.. another Starr that puts me on top of their head. You are certainly different than other Starrs but that is not a surprise due to your older sibling. Now let me see.. You are certainly smart and would do well in Ravenclaw however, there is more to you than intelligence and wit. You like to please people and you try very hard to maintain balance in almost every situation. There is only one house that will turn that trait into an asset and that is..

Horror! A look of horror crossed Lucas' face as the sorting hat called out Hufflepuff. He turned to look at Thom and then Angel. They had all lost the bet. What were the odds? The next day at school was going to be rather unpleasant.
Sadie Magnas
06-08-2008, 02:05 AM
Sadie walked up behind Lucas and patted him on the back. A huge grin was on her face as she tried not to laugh. She was so glad she hadn't gone in with the betting because she would have lost.
"So... you remember my red pumps... Right?" She giggled. "Oh I could charm your hair and make it longer and in curls! You would look great with curls."
Andromeda Cross
16-09-2008, 09:13 AM
((recapping original post as best i can remember))
"Oh please don't let me be a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor, pretty please." The phrase was a mantra struck on repeat in Andromeda's head as she stood with her fell first years waiting for sorting. She felt like a cornered animal as all the older students watched her though she saw nothing menacing in there expressions. Both houses represented rejection and ridicule by her more unfortunate relations and at only eleven years old she was scared spitless of them.
"ANDROMEDA CROSS!" When she heard her name she walked forward sedately with no particular expression on her face though she was shaking inside. An aloof manner came to her as easy as breathing but it did nothing to change the turmoil roiling inside her.
"Pleas don't put me in Gryffendor or Hufflepuff." She though desperately at the hat as the first touch of its age soft fabric.
"Or Slytherin." She added though not intentionally. Her parents would be thrilled no matter what house she ended up in and her relations would be pleased with Slytherin but she had no desire to be part of a house that would bring her in close contact with them.
Seth Brusseau

Seth took a deep breath, walked up to the stool and sat down. He had no idea where he could be sorted in the school. He looked around the faces of his fellow students, but knew that only one of the tables there would probably be his closest friends for the next several years at the school.
Make me famous, he thought to himself as the hat was put on his head.

Also, I have an indication of the house I'd like Fintan to be in, but I don't really want to approach the admins as everyone's so busy, but if one of them has some free time for discussion, may I be contacted?))
Seth had gone to his newly sorted house table.
"FINTAN REILLEY BRENNAN" The hat boomed.
Fintan stepped out of the queue and silently moved towards the stool of which the sorting hat was placed upon. He reached the stool, placed the hat onto his head and took a seat. The brim of the hat rested on his glasses, blocking his view of the Great Hall.

Ethlinn O'Riordan
22-07-2009, 04:36 PM
Ethlinn strolled nonchalently up tp the hat. Te only thing she was nervous about was having to put a manky hat on her hair. Would her hair smell gross afterwards? Sitting down she crossed her legs delicately and placed the hat down so that it slipped over her eyes. She didn't have a clue which house she would belong, as far as she was concerned they needed to make a whole new house for her. Slytherin, Gryfindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and O'Riordan.

Hollie had waited for her turn, trying desperately to not be sick on her shoes. She heard her name and made her way towards the stool. She felt like she was climbing a ladder as she sat on top and placed the hat on her head. She wondered which house it would pick for her. It did seem like such and odd thing to let pick were you belonged. She had been told that the hat talked to you inside your head and she trembled as she waited, her hands clamped to the sides of the stools seat.

27-07-2009, 03:51 AM
Rowan stood very confident and a little bit to courageous for the event. He looked around the hall as the houses were being called "Gryffindor!", "Hufflepuff!"... This was was more than Rowan had expected it to be. The attention all on that single person sitting in that chair waiting for ther fate for the next 7 years of their lives...

Rowan, as confident and courageous as he could, brought himself to sit upon the chair as the sorting hat was placed on his head.

When it was time for him to sit, Nicky walked over to the small stool and sat down crossing his legs. The hat was placed on him, As the other people were staring at him anxiously, Nicky remembered about the flask in his robes. Rory was shaking slightly as she approached the stool . Up close she could see the hats features much more clearly and all she could think was how afraid she was to find out. Parker Harrison
07-05-2010, 04:28 AM
Parker stepped up to the stool and the hat, wishing that everyone in the room wasn't able to see her. She could feel her cheeks redden as she picked up the hat, turning to sit down before letting it drop onto her head and over her eyes. If she had fallen when trying to sit down, she would have just about died right there in the Great Hall.
Um... hello? she thought to the hat, not wanting to say it outloud but not wanting to be impolite. It talked, it sang, it sorted people... it had to have some kind of brain or intelligence. She felt silly wanting to be polite to a hat, but if inanimate objects in this world were alive (or at least had the semblance of life), then she might as well be nice to them. Then, when they tried to take over the world like in that one movie her brothers were watching, they wouldn't try to kill her.
Okay, now she was being ridiculous. But at least she had forgotten about all of the people waiting for her to be sorted.

"A bit of a late bloomer with your magic, but it is strong now never the less. Like many other students here you have a good head on your shoulders and a strong desire to learn what you can while you can. You have a great advantage over the rest of your family and I suspect you shall do them proud in the future! I see it only fit to place you in....

Before Parker had the chance to skip off to her new house table the sorting hat did his best to whisper something to her, "I suggest talking to the Magnas girl from Gryffindor, she shares a same love for dance as you do."

Claus Von Klein
26-06-2010, 09:48 AM
((OOC: I think I'm a day off two weeks, I hope that doesn't matter too much?))
Claus had come to the school so late in the year that the thought of him being sorted as a part of a ceremony was absurd. Instead the authority of the school insisted that tradition be maintained and that he was to be sorted via the sorting hat and so here he was, sat in a rather empty Great Hall on a summer's afternoon, waiting for the staff to bring in the hat. He huffed slightly, considering whom he might be sorted into. He'd never understood the Beauxbatons process however the Hogwarts method of a hat seemed absolutely absurd, not that it was a bad thing. Claus often felt that any tradition was better than Beauxbatons' and a hat would probably give a more accurate view of personality than what he had to do at his other school.
Eventually the hat was brought to him and he quickly placed it atop his head, wondering how exactly this thing was meant to sort him. Did it suddenly turn the colour of the chosen house? Needless to say it gave him quite a shock when it began to talk.

You don't value education which is a shame, because Ravenclaw would suit your clever mind very well... You are very loyal to the few friends you have, and Helga Hufflepuff would foster that trait very well... However, i see something else in you.. yes, that's it... strong opinions, ability to act on impulse and the affinity in taking risk can only be cared for in one house, and that house is..

She nervously bit her bottom lip as she stared the Sorting Hat right in the eye (Hats aren't supposed to have eyes, Olivia thought. I think I still have much to learn).
With a deep breath, Olivia stepped up the stool and took her seat. Before she knew it, the Sorting Hat was on her head, nice and snug.
Not quite sure what else to do but wait, Olivia put her hands on her knees, sat still, and greeted the Hat. It was a smart idea to perhaps be friendly to the animate object that was going to decide her fate at Hogwarts.

Now, let's see, despite your quiet nature, you want to socialize, and Gryffindor can be just the house to help you break out of that shell.
