View Full Version : Muggle Plants

Cian, as most people knew was an avid gardener, his favourite subject by far being herbology of course, and he was, as usual, in one of his favourite spots to spend his free time, the greenhouses. He was in a small corner of the student greenhouse were he had set up a lot of his extracurricular projects. He had been undertaking a particular project for the last few months, of growing some muggle plants. Being half blood he had grown up not knowing too much about muggle things, and he wanted to do a little research into their plants that they liked to grow. He was under the impression that they weren't the most interesting of plants, not compared to things like the Venomous tentacular or the Flitterby bush, but anything plant related was a fascination to him. He had picked up a few seeds whilst buying school supplies in London, bored with his mother and sister's shopping antics he had visited a muggle market in an area called Camden and a guy had sold them to him telling him he'd enjoy the buzz from these ones. Glad he had found someone else who got a buzz from gardening he bought them and started growing them as soon as he got to school.
He was now sat hunched over them a pile of muggle plant books in his lap, poring over the pictures. He wanted to identify them before he showed them off to the herbology professor. They had finally started to sprout but he couldn't find what they were. He was starting to worry that they might be as bad as the plant that had caused havoc with a wizard's flu a month or so back.

Thom wasn't sure why Morganna would ever be in the greenhouses but since he couldn't find her in the usual places, he set off looking for her on the Hogwarts grounds. He opened the greenhouse door and scanned the area for her but he only saw Cian, the herbology geek and former prefect.
'Hey man.' Thom said as casually as he could as he walked over to him. Maybe he would know where she was? He highly doubted it since Morgs didn't hang out with dorks like Cian. However, Morgs was Head girl and it was possible he spotted her someplace. 'Do you know where Morgs is? My girl...'
He noticed the plants Cian was hovering over and Thom furrowed his brow in mild confusion. Quick realization came over his face as he identified the plants Cian was growing.
'You stoner. I knew you couldn't as geeky everyone made you out to be.' Thom leaned against the counter and pointed to the marijuana plants with a comical smile.

"Mason?" Sadie called out for him as she looked around the school. Lately she had been busy with studying and ballet practice that she had been neglecting her boyfriend. "Where is he?" She thought out loud.
She was standing outside of the greenhouse in a rather funky outfit. It was a short skirt, black with some ruffles. A black shirt with red roses on it, a white jacket that only came mid-back, red and black striped fingerless armwarmers, thigh highs with thick vertical black and white stripes, and knee high boots. She really loved her boots, so much that they were starting to get a little ratty and she would have to buy some new ones.
'You stoner. I knew you couldn't as geeky everyone made you out to be.'
Who was in the greenhouse at this time? Sadie peeked her head in and saw Thom, and blond who seemed really interested in a certain plant... Must be Cian. What were the two doing in there? Sadie couldn't really picture the two of them hanging out as friends... Then again this was Hogwarts. Should she go in and say hi? Its rude to listen in on other peoples coversations, and Cian was still her knight in shining armer (though that would probably ne Mason's job now). However, it had been a while since she and Thom actually talked or hung out, and things always went weird when they hung out. He either confused the hell out of her, or some comical situation happened.
With that thought she decided to just keep looking for Mason. When she took one step her plans were cut short when she tripped over someone's bag that was left right infront of the entryway of the Greenhouse.
"Ahhhhhh!" SMACK! She landed face down on the ground. Sadie groned as she started to lift herself up on her hands and knees. So much for a clean get-away.

((Ummm Sadie....I'm going to half ignore you in case you don't come back.....if you do jump back in!))
Cian frowned up at the Thom shaped interruption. He only knew who Thom was referring to due to her being the head girl. He barely knew who anyone was in the school. This of course suited him fine, he didn't want friends. In his opinion everything he needed in life could usually be found in a greenhouse.
"Sorry I have not." He said abruptly, turning back to his books. His frown, that seemed to be on his face permanently, deepened as Thom called him a 'stoner'. He was totally unaware of muggle slang, or indeed anything to do with anything illegal. Thom had him utterly perplexed and a little insulted when he referred to him as a geek. He wasn't a geek! Merely a little more studious than most teenagers.
"I'm sorry?" He asked crossly, brows knitted in confusion. His eyes flickered over to the commotion Sadie had just made, but from his vantage point he could not see what it was.

Thom didn't turn around when Sadie crashed into something. All he heard was a crash and there was nothing that would tear him away from the situation that was now laid before him. He opened and closed his mouth a few times with Cian's reaction. That wasn't the reaction he was hoping for with Cian... he pointed to the plant in question.
'I said you were a stoner. You know, you are growing weed.' He said simply, unsure of where Cian got lost on his statement before. Honestly, he couldn't be that innocent, right?

"Weeds! That man sold me a bunch of useless weeds?" Cian rolled his eyes in frustration. He couldn't believe he had spent his novelty muggle money on a bunch of garden invaders.
Straightening up he kicked at the tray in annoyance, scattering soil over his and Thom's shoes. He was still naively unaware of what 'weed' this plant actually was. He had grown up as a recluse, he was unaware of most magical drugs, never mind the muggle ones. As for being a stoner, he certainly couldn't recall ever throwing stones at anyone before. Thom's interest in the plants confused him still though. He had heard of his reputation to be somewhat of a bad one, so couldn't fathom why the sudden interest in herbology. Perhaps it was a lead up to some cruel trick he was at the brunt of. He went to take a step back, then changed his mind, wanting to stand his ground, just in case.

DUDE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!' Thom practically flipped out and attempted to jump back at Cian's explosive anger that just enabled him to have dirt on his shoes. He looked at the clearly clueless kid agape and then leaned over to put the tray back in place.
'They aren't useless weeds, Cian.' Thom said calmly enough, still assessing if his assumptions were right. Did he know what he was growing? 'What you have here, is gold. What you've done is amazing. I've been trying to grow these babies for a while and all I've got were dead plants.' Thom gently set the pot back on the ground with the soil in it again.
'Where did you get the seeds, Cian?' He knew full well he couldn't just buy a potted Marijuana plant out of the local store.

Cian was naive but wasn't totally stupid, and things were starting to click into place. There weren't many reasons muggle plants were valuable, mainly for food, medicine and illegal uses. He was pretty sure which ones Thom would be interested in and why he would grow such plants. The viscous rumours flying around school concerning Thom's illegal dealings were apparently most likely not just rumours.
"Erm...a weird little place called Camden. A muggle part of London." He answered quietly, wondering how he was going to get rid of the plants without getting caught. Maybe he could burn them. Get rid of all the evidence. He sighed and slumped his head in his hands.
"Please let them be medicinal...." He whispered more to himself. He was going to get banned from herbology at this rate. First he was spreading the plague and now he was growing dodgy stuff. Despite that, he couldn't help bristling slightly inside with pride at Thom's comment of this being amazing. His aptitude in Herbology was something he was really proud of. Something he hoped his father would have been proud of.

Finally Cian caught on to what these plants really were. He looked at Cian as he put his head in his hands as he muttered that he hoped to be medicinal. His ears pounded as he realized what he could do with Cian's aptitude for growing this stuff.
'Camden? Nice place.' Thom said casually and then looked down at the plants again. He looked up at Cian, wondering just how far to go in order to keep Cian in growing this stuff. It was hard to read the backward Gryffindor and Thom didn't know what worked on him and what didn't.
'They are medicinal. There is this muggle disease called cancer that it's used for.' However, he didn't have the heart to tell him that the only medicinal use that cancer patients used it for was to relax and get high. After all, they did have cancer. 'Yeah. Apparently this disease just kills you and this stuff, called Marijuana, just cures you.'
He nodded, starting to believe his own lie. 'But its incredibly hard to grow. I'm still amazed that you did it.'

Sadie listened to the boy's conversation as she sat up. They didn't seem to notice that she was there... Did she turn invisable without her knowing? Sadie stood up and dusted herself off.
"Marijuana?" Sadie pipped up, forgetting she was trying to be stealthy. She couldn't help it. As soon as Thom said 'Marijuana' her ears picked up. "I've heard that word before... I think Daddy or Raven mentioned it a while back... Something about a huge shipment... But what Daddy would be doing with muggle stuff I wouldn't know." She shrugged.
After she was done talking she realized that she just made herself known, "Oh... um hi... by the way." Her smile widened when she looked at Cian.

Thom looked behind him to see Sadie there. He narrowed his eyes a bit, warning her to be quiet. He ignored her because she hadn't said anything for a bit in the past conversation and Thom had hoped that she had left. It wasn't that he had something against Sadie, he just wanted to convince Cian to keep growing the stuff.
'Yeah. I bet your dad is concerned with muggle health as well.' Thom tried to cover a potentially bad statement that Sadie made. What her Dad did and why Raven was around was suspicious and rumors of course ran rampant at Hogwarts. However, none of the students had full proof of what her Dad did besides her father threatening him when they were "dating."
'Yeah.. its in high demand...' Thom nodded back to Cian. 'And its not easy to grow.'

Cian looked at Thom trying to decipher if he was lying. Not knowing people very well he wasn't able to distinguish between a blatant lie and the truth. He looked up when he heard Sadie talk and wondered vaguely if she was the source of the crash earlier. She always did seem to get herself into a pickle. He nodded when she said hi but didn't return the greeting. He turned back to the plants and started rearranging the soil that he had just messed up. He wasn't overly concerned about other people, but it did seem an awful shame this disease affected them so. He had a slight fondness to muggles and their ways having grown up at a muggle school.
"Perhaps...maybe...I could help them somehow?" He said looking up at Thom.

'Yes!' Thom exclaimed a bit too loudly but tried to recover his over eager chess move to get Cian on board with his master plan to be his own boss instead of doing countless transactions to get the stuff he wanted.
'You know how hopeless Muggles can be sometimes. They have this great plant in front of them and they need someone with great talent to harvest and grow this miracle cure.' He started to help Cian put the soil back in but crudely and clumsily.
