There is Permanent, Semi-permanent and Temporary categories of retirement.
Permanent means just that, permanent and you will not play your character AT ALL. Normally you would use this title if your character died, found another job in a faraway place and has no reasons to come back to Hogwarts, or the player wants to play a new character. Once your character is permanently retired, that's it. There is no bringing them back.
Warning: if you plan to kill off your character, the administration WILL NOT budge in bringing them back to life if you change your mind. In HP, seldom do characters have the ability to come back from the dead.
There are two exceptions: Holly Quinn Midnight, who is actually dead that was brought back (one time only) by Death, and Alexis Caplan, who has the soul of Oryn Brooks. Alexis Caplan is the tell-tale example of a player who killed off their character (because they were upset with the site and some other members on it) and then after instantly regretted it. Though the administration was flexible with that player, we vowed we would never do it again.
We like to do interesting things with HP and break the HP rules, but we don't have vampires and/or zombies on a regular basis, nor is it fair to ask us to spin your impulsive character death as something new when none of us were prepared for it or want it.
So if you kill off your character holy and completely and has no hidden agenda/plot with the administration about the boundaries of your death prior to you writing that post, then your character STAYS DEAD. End of story.
Semi-permanent means that they left Hogwarts due to graduation, finding a job or family crisis. Semi-permanent means that though you will play that character sometimes, you won't play it the same frequency as before and where you can post is restricted.
Since they left Hogwarts, they can't still be roaming around the halls like other students and teachers. Though every once in a while, if a former student wants to visit, a thread is necessary, but they shouldn't be on every thread or a lot of threads at Hogwarts unless its for a specific reason. Where a semi-permanent retired character can post is in Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, Ministry of Magic and Other Locations.
Though they can post in those locations, the amount of posting should be restricted. After all they are still retired and it wouldn't be fair to keep posting at the same frequency as before. Also, because this character will be used less, you can apply for another character. I don't have strict numbers on how many times a semi-permanent character can post, but use your logic and reason.
A temporary retired character is more complicated. A temporary character retirement means that if a character is gone for more than a month (fictionally), you should put your file here. This means that you won't be posting at all, or minimally (you are restricted the same way as a semi-permanent) but eventually, your student will come back to school. If they are gone for more than 6 months to a year, then I will automatically put it in semi-permanent. If you just stop posting due to laziness or Real Life drama, I won't put your file under temporary retirement. This is just fictional hiatus.
If you want your character to be retired, you should first PM the administration about why you want to do it. Most reasons should be fine but we want to be aware of characters being retired, especially if you want to kill off a character. We also want to keep tabs on how many are retired and who wants to make new characters.
Then you should move your character file here, then reply under this thread the reasons you are retired. This way, its public knowledge and no one is confused. Make sure that you aren't in any threads, or exit the threads first before you post here. Don't leave anyone hanging.
Any Questions, just PM Eva Seivert. Thanks!
